Las Vegas New Year

If you decide to take in the Strip party, we suggest that you find parking as early as possible, wear good shoes and bundle up (it's colder out there than you think). Be advised that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will indeed be out in force, looking for glass containers and drunken belligerence -- both of which are strictly forbidden.

Metro will close the Las Vegas Strip to traffic when the crowds warrant it, usually around 7 p.m. Once closed, traffic will be restricted to emergency vehicles only. The public can access hotel parking via side streets including Industrial or Paradise Roads, Frank Sinatra Dr. and Koval Lane.

The party on Fremont Street: The Fremont Street Experience will show a display of electronic fireworks on the downtown canopy, scheduled to explode simultaneously with the fireworks on the Strip. Confetti will be dropped from the light canopy and party favors are handed out to attendees. A fee will get you a light show, live music, and the warm companionship of roughly 30,000 of your close personal friends.

For cocktails, there are the hotel bars, most of which will be slammed seven ways from Sunday. Local police will patrol the Experience in conjunction with Experience security, which should result in a more controlled environment than the Strip. Gates open at 5 p.m.
